Chicopee Marketplace in Chicopee, MA to get Electrify America's First DC Fast Charger that Will Charge Electric Vehicles Up to 20 miles Per Minute

Electrify America and Brixmor Property Group will be hosting a ceremony at Brixmor’s Chicopee Marketplace, in Chicopee, MA, to celebrate the location as the first to receive and operate Electrify America’s state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) charging system that has the first-ever certified cooled-cable 350 kilowatt (kW) charger in the United States.

These cooled-cable chargers, which are certified to UL standards, will offer 350kW of power capable of charging a vehicle at a speed of up to 20 miles per minute, which is seven times faster than today’s most commonly used DC 50kW Fast Charger.

This installation is part of Electrify America’s Cycle One investment of $500 million to install or have under development electric vehicle charging infrastructure at U.S. highway, retail, workplace, multiunit dwellings (MUD) and other locations by June 2019. The company plans a total investment of $2 billion in zero emission vehicle infrastructure, education and access programs over 10 years.

Recent auto company announcements indicate that the number of EVs could double by 2020 from the 45 types of EVs and PHEVs on the road today. EV drivers will need an extensive, reliable and fast charging network to power these vehicles, and they will need them to be in locations that are convenient, and offer other amenities, such as shopping or food.

These ultra-fast chargers from Electrify America will help to meet the needs of EV drivers today and tomorrow by offering the latest technology available. And through Brixmor Property Group, Chicopee is getting it first.
