Electrify America Unveils Plans to Install 52 Upgraded or New DC Fast Chargers With EVgo in Key Markets Across the Country

HERNDON, Virginia (May 8, 2017) – Electrify America, LLC announced today that its first project under the National ZEV Investment Plan will be a partnership with EVgo to install 52 upgraded or new electric vehicle chargers in seven U.S. cities. The project will add new Direct Current (DC) Fast Chargers to existing electric vehicle charging station sites. It will also upgrade existing single standard (Chademo) DC Fast Charging Stations by adding the ability to charge using Combined Charging Standard (CCS).

These projects are in line with the National ZEV Investment Plan finalized on April 12, 2017. Seven major metro markets across the country will receive upgraded or new DC Fast chargers as a result of this initiative, including: Philadelphia, Seattle, Chicago, Denver, Washington DC, Boston and New York.

As outlined in the National ZEV Investment Plan, Electrify America has committed to engaging and partnering with many existing vendors and suppliers in the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure space. Electrify America will use EVgo Services LLC as the project management company. Charging hardware will be provided by BTC Power and ABB Inc.

These new chargers will provide greater access to current CCS-compatible vehicles from five vehicle manufacturers. In addition, Chademo-compatible vehicles from four vehicle manufacturers will experience improved charge times due to the increased kW output from these upgraded chargers. Electrify America and EVgo also will add new DC Fast Chargers to high potential sites.
